Today we talked about the effect of economic problems around the world, on people working in the entertainment business.

Even the famous American cartoon show ‘The Simpsons’ is not immune.

The cast – actors who are the voices of the cartoon characters – are being asked to take a pay cut.

This is because the US TV Network Fox, who make ‘The Simpsons say they can no longer afford to produce the animated comedy.

Fox want the cast to have a 45% pay cut.

Whilst each member of the cast earns 8 million US dollars per series, not everyone has agreed to this proposal.

The show is hugely successful but that makes it expensive to produce.

Production costs increase with time as well as fees for the voice actors with voice actors expecting to share the show’s financial success.

Another contributing factor to the proposed pay cuts is the fact that ratings for the show are falling.

Some have argued that if Fox tried to use cheaper voice actors the popularity of the show might drop even further than it already has.

But for now, the question of how long will the characters remain in the show can only be answered once contract negotiations are over, and a result is announced
