This year at the top of the list is Ai WeiWei, a famous artist from China.

Ai Weiwei is best known for helping design the birds nest Olympic stadium in Beijing and for his installations, such as a recent porcelain sunflower seeds installation at the London’s Tate Modern.

But according to the Art Review Magasine he is at the top of the list not just for his art but for his activities, which promoted the idea that art’s real context is to be engaged with the world.

Ai Weiwei used both his art and his fame to bring to the attention human rights causes that he believes in – to millions around the world,.
